Ian & Claire's Adventure
Note. Upload photos
We got up at 5am to catch the train to Canberra. The journey was very long and made longer by some gitty kids.
We arrived and called a backpackers who got us rooms and picked us up, it was a great place, really friendly.
We walked to Parliament house, it took ages but we finally got through the sprall of the suburbs. It a pretty impressive structure, built into the hill (although you cant walk over it anymore). It contained fantastic aboriginal art, although really modern with materials from all over the world. The entrance hall had an impressive set of marble columns and white marble staircase. The main hall had an amazing huge tapestry which looked like a painting it wasbased on an artist painting of a forest.
We went into the chambers and senet house, its a mixture of England and US tradition. We then took the lift to the roof and walked over the grass top.
We then walked down to the lake and then walked to the botanical gardens (again a huge task) where we watched some live jazz and shared a bottle of wine....very civilised.
The next day we hired bikes from the hostel and cycled down to the art gallery, and sculpture park. We then cycled around the lake (it was far further than we thought, but did us good). We then went to the Australia museum, it was a really modern idea, a mixture of aboriginal and modern australia with interactive things. We then cycled back with sore legs and bums after all the bike riding, after a hot shower and food we went to the pub for some well earned beer.
Melbourne tomorrow.
