This was really our only day to properly see Bangkok. We woke up on the night train that was ok but not nearly as nice as the one in Vietnam - again we arrived early but as we had actually been to this station to get our train to Cambodia we actually knew we were in the right place. We took a tuk tuk to our hostel that was half the price that we paid to get there the first time when arriving off the flight because we actually knew how much stuff should cost now. Luckily we could check in early and we got given the exact same room as before. We decided to eat breakfast here although looking back we new it was overpriced and so I still wonder why we ate there but anyway we spoke to a girl at our hostel of what to do and how to get there and she gave us a really good map with lots of info for things to see and how much they should cost.
We took the water bus from our hostel to the grand palace which was really cool. The palace was expensive to get into but it was worth it. And you have to completely cover up and not even allowed to wear flip flops so we were very hot all day! We were both wearing our PJ bottoms because they are baggy so we thought it would keep us coolest. After going to see our thousandth Buddha I went to sit down and split my PJ bottoms!! Luckily I only had to try to get out of the complex where I could just wear my shorts again.
Next we went to a giant reclining buddha and for some reason you got a free bottle of water with your ticket which was nice! the buddha was HUGE and really pretty on the way out lots of locals were paying like 1 baht to get some loose change to put into lots of pots. I decided to do it to even though I still don't know why or the significance behind doing it- dan agreed because he wanted to keep some of the small coins as they are the hardest ones to collect!
We had pad Thai for lunch again as it is so yummy. Before going back to our hostel to try to find an internet cafe to print our boarding card. On the way we found numerous places offering to make suits. After printing our boarding card we went to one of the shops to get Dan a suit made. He chose a dark grey one and it came with a free purple tie. He got measured and they said it would be ready for when we came back from Burma in a few days time. We went to Mcdonalds for dinner. Dan got a samurai pork burger and I got a normal cheeseburger and some fried chicken because McDonald's sell that in Thailand. We also got a tuna sweet corn melt pie. Which was just like apple pies in England but savoury and really yummy. I also got a Fanta slush which also has ice cream on top! They also have two different types of ketchup regular and american which was weird.
