The plane was tiny! So that was really good and the airport we landed at is probably the smallest airport we've ever been to! Luckily the taxis had set fares into town which was really good. Our hostel was the most European one we had in Asia. In that there were lots of rules about everything which is kind of annoying. There were also signs up telling people not to have sex with children which was disturbing. We knew it happened in that part of the world but luckily hadn't seen any of it thankfully. We set off to find lunch but mistakenly went out of town instead of into it and ate at a shabby looking place but it was surprisingly good we tried to go back again a few days later but it was shut! We didn't do very much this day dan was still recovering from last night! We then went to the night market which was amazing and so massive!! We didn't buy anything this night we just decided to look around and buy the next night! We ate at this place with huge bowls of food , lots of different noodles and veg dishes and you fill your plate for about 1 pound. We then found a whole alley of these places and ate at a different one every night.
We decided to rent a moped for the day even though it was really expensive compared to hiring in Vietnam but we loved riding around in Vietnam as it gives you so much freedom and also a little breeze to escape the humidity. We also booked a elephant ride with bathing for the next day which was exciting!
We rode around Luang Prabang which is a very holy place for Buddhists and there are monks everywhere. We saw lots of beautiful temples but decided not to pay to go in any of them because like in Europe with churches we had seen enough temples and they all melt into one so there's no point paying for any. We got around pretty quick on the moped so We decided to go to some waterfalls that were near by about 30km away once we started we took a wrong turn but luckily found the right path again.
We got to go through little villages and see what real Laos people live like. Laos is a lot different to the other Asian countries we had been to it was very mountain and so made a really good ride to the falls. We made it there eventually and paid to go in. On the way there there was a bear sanctuary with about 20 black bears that had been rescued from various people who try to make them perform.
The falls themselves were very pretty but absolutely ice cold. It was also very slippy so hard to walk around and there was no where to put your belongings so we just put them on some rocks. We wanted to stay quite close to them becuase there were alot of people around. People were also running and jumping in to the waterfall by a swing rope but I didn't want to as it was too cold for me to be fully submerged and I didn't want to get the water in my because it would probably make you ill. Also in the water fish kept biting our feet and legs and I found it very uncomfortable and unnerving as the water wasn't very clear so you couldn't actually see any fish you could just feel them biting.
We thought we'd spend the rest of the day there but the water wasn't great and we had actually enjoyed the ride there more then the place. So we decided to head back to Luang Prabang and go to the night market. We went a little crazy buying things (as usual) we bought clothes and a lamp and these little bomb pendants made out of real bombs or landlines dropped on the country by the Americans which we thought would make really interesting gifts for people. We then ate at the same type of place as yesterday but we also bought some bbq'd meat some fish, pork and two sparrows! The sparrows were quite yummy but there wasnt that much meat on them and Dan even ate the heart!!
