The train to Udaipur actually arrived on time and our free pickup was waiting for us! Success! The ride to the hotel took ages because of all the traffic it wasnt actually that far, but because tuk tuks don't have doors we were breathing in all the fumes of the traffic and it was horrible!
The hotel itself was really nice and the food was amazing! We ate there a few times!
Udaipurs claim to fame is that the James Bond film octop**** was filmed here so every place plays the movie every day, it must be infuriating for the workers here! They also played the best exotic Marigold hotel but I don't know if that was because it was filmed here or if its just because its about old people in India and all travelers here seem to be in that age bracket. Or hippies.
The main thing to see in Udaipur is the palace, the ticket office is outside of the walls so you have to walk quite a way before the entrance to the palace. It is crafty because if we had been able to see the queue to the palace we would have thought twice! There were SO many people, and once we were in the palace it was a huge crush everywhere because they obviously don't have capacity levels here.
The palace was nice enough, there wasn't really much info around even though we paid enough for it! But it took us hours to get through due to the sheer volume of people wanting our photo taken. The toll must have exceeded 100 today. People were trying to get photos of us with their kids but they were having none of it! And once one person asked that led to everyone queuing to take photos of us! So bizarre!
Another thing to see in Udaipur is the floating hotel in the middle of the lake that was pretty but foggy when we went to go see it!
We had to get an overnight bus from Udaipur to Mumbai as the one train had filled up 2 months ago when the tickets came out. We chose a sleeper non AC Bus as AC was really expensive. We took a tuk tuk to the 'bius station' and he literally went slower than walking! We thought we might actually miss the bus! But this was India so in fact we had to wait over an hour before our bus turned up!! And I'll let dan tell you that part of the journey.....
