That photo isnt of Chongqing but I have to pick one to upload the blog. We arrived in Chongqing easily and got a taxi to the hostel but it didn't drop us off at the hostel it dropped us off at a random street so we still had to walk for half an hour before we found it. We ate at the hostel because there wasn't much around I got sweet and sour pork which tasted nothing like the home version but still really good Dan ordered beer duck but it was really spicy and mostly bone so not as good.
Chongqing to say most people have never heard of the city is absolutely massive and kind of looked like new York because of the amount of skyrises there. It was so polluted that even though our hostel was by the river we could barely see across to the other side.
We were going to go to the dazu caves ( which are caves filled with thousands of different buddhas) the next day because the lonely planet and online made out that they were close by but they were over a 3 hour drive away! The tour would also be in Chinese and the woman at the hostel said that we would only get an hour there because they would also make us go to some factory too buy stuff. So we didn't think it was worth our money.
Instead we just chilled at the hostel and treated ourselves to pizza which actually came out like a stir fry on a pizza. So still quite chinesy.
We then got a night train to Guilin which arrived an over an hour late. Luckily our sheets hadn't been used like in the last train so it was OK. We had some hill billy Chinese in our compartment who bought 2 middles and a top but not a bottom as its more expensive. But they had a 70 year old with them and so the man who had the other bottom bed had to swap even though he had paid more for it. I know that they purposely didn't book a bottom bunk because the man was with his girlfriend and she was in a different carriage because they didn't manage to buy tickets together Which means the hill Billy's definitely bought there tickets first.
They were horrible people to share with. They were all shouting to each other at 4am, because they can't talk normally. And I woke up at about 7am ad the man was sat at the end of my bed! Even though they had the full other bottom bed and 2 seats to sit on he sat on my bed whilst I was asleep! They have no sense of personal space in China. Once I finally got up at 8am because of the constant shouting they went back to sleep?! We also realised when we awoke that we were running over 5 hours late. Which meant that we were on the train for a full 24 hours. It was horrible.
