It didn't take long to get there and the river cruise boats were tiny little things that didn't look safe but we got life jackets and put all of our valuables in a waterproof bag. The cruise was very nice and the scenery was very pretty with lots of individual hills climbing really high amongst one another. It was hard to get a photo though because it was so hazy. We then got dropped off in yangshuo which was a little town with narrow streets, lots of shops and restaurants and still surrounded by the tall peaks, it was a really nice town so decided to stay two nights.
We found it hard to find the hostel because it said to look for a sign, but the sign was about an inch tall with tiny writing on it. The hostel was nice but our rooms had two huge wasps in, over two inches long each without even exaggerating, it was hard to get them out. The little town had a lot of German bars and German buildings which was peculiar, we decided to eat in a Chinese restaurant getting duck with rice and pork with rice, it was rubbish as usual.
That night be drank with some people from the hostel as beer was about 50p, then we headed into town again but everywhere had trebled their price of beer so we sat in a quiet place where it was cheaper. When we walked back to the hostel it was late so we sat outside and finished our beers, when a rat kept running along the window inside the hostel which was really gross. The next day we switched rooms to a private room which was really nice apart from the mattress was as hard as wood, we also had a balcony which was huge and had a really good view.
We did some washing in the room and hung it to dry before heading into town, we went for lunch in an Italian place and got pizza and a wrap which worked out quite expensive, we walked around town which had a lot of souvenirs, really tacky horrible ones like what we used to get in Blackpool years ago but the Chinese love them, you could even get a 3d print of your head put onto an action figure. We got an ice cream from McDonalds, we asked for two ice creams but got completely different ice creams to what we asked for, the Chinese are rude like that, they never attempt to try and understand what you want, they can't be bothered then just give you what they think you want. They did the same in the last McDonalds where we ordered two meals then got a meal and nuggets, even though we pointed to a menu right in front of us.
We wondered some more then sat by the river for a bit before heading to get dinner, we had street food which was really good and cheap, we had duck noodles and pork noodles, a kebab each and some cheesy potato balls and it only came to a few pound.
The next morning we checked our washing but it was soaked, it felt even wetter than when we hung it up, we had to put it into a waterproof bag still wet to take it with us.
