Distance traveled today: 26.8 km
Distance remaining: 396.6 km (half way)
After a good night's sleep in our own room, we were again awakened by a commotion at around 5:30 am. It sounded as if someone was trying to break the door down, but again it was our compatriot pilgrims trying to get a jump start on the day, oblivious to either the noise they were making or the fact that there were others in the building who didn't share their super early starts. But I digress.
Out the door and on the road by 6:50 am today, not our earliest start, but a good one none the less. The walk out of town was pleasant enough. The mornings are starting to get warmer so it is not as hard to get going. After a little stint on the main Road, we veered onto an intact and still well used roman road. The story behind the road is interesting enough (built in marshland where no rocks were available for construction, meaning that an estimated 100,000 tonnes of stones had to be transported from elsewhere, pretty full on!), but to walk it, not so much fun. It stretched basically 17 km in a straight line, with b***** all to see either side, so again today's walk was pretty uneventful
We arrived in town around 12:30pm and have checked into a private refugio on the recommendation of our guide book - word is the food here is fantastic! The washing for the day is done, so all that is left for us to do is enjoy the sunshine and play some uno (the tournament is all tied up at 11 games each - intense!)
