Total distance today: 21km
Total distance remaining: 605.3km
After a terrible night´s sleep (seriously, it was bad, all the snorers were surrounding us! and the windows were placed at street light level, yuck), we were up early - surprise surprise - and a bit lethargic to the start of the day. The morning was freezing cold and misty following a very hot afternoon/evening yesterday. So we made sure we put our raincovers and rain jackets on early just in case.
Boy was it a hilly day today. And rainy rainy misty yucky. But it was still beautiful green rolling hills, so you couldn´t be too upset. Only maybe due to the fact that no pictures could be taken due the awful weather.
We rolled into town around midday and pretty knackered. We had planned to go onto the next town (which is an additional 5km on), but decided to drop into the refugio in town to defrost a little bit. But much to our pleasant surprise, this place is brand spanking new, just opened really recently! And its free!! Seriously, I feel like I am in a hotel, it was one of the best showers I have had since arriving in spain. That definitely cheered up the afternoon. So Gabe and I decided to brave the elements and get around town to see what´s on offer. Very cool little town - and there´s a fiesta (festival) on today, so we´re going to go down and check it out after we sign off.
Oh, and the chocolate chickens is due to a legend that is very famous in town about a miracle performed by Saint Domingo. Basically, he saved a boy who was hung unjustly (he rejected a girl who made advances on him, so she hid a silver vase in his bag and accused him of stealing). Days later his parents heard his voice and found him alive still in the noose. They ran to the sheriff and told him what they had seen. He had just sat down to dinner and said, that boy is about as alive as this chicken i´m about to eat. Suddenly, the chicken sat up and started to cluck. The sheriff ran to the boy and cut him down. Now they actually keep chickens in the church due to this legend.
Happy ANZAC day to everyone by the way. Go the Bombers! Also, Lizzie, have a great shower and Lyndsey hope you had a great show! Finally, new photos have been uploaded!
