Hi all!
at the moment we are sitting in a campsite right by a beautiful beach with warm water and a temperature of 30 + degrees. It is called Playa Hermosa which rather aptly means beautiful beach. The small bay has cliffs and there are small islands out in the bay which makes it even more picturesque.
We have travelled up through Costa Rica and have spent some time in the cloudforest at a place called Monteverde. This was very lovely and we did see some great birds , butterflies and animals but we got tired of the constant rain. This may sound pernickety but it is hard when the washing from 3 days ago hasn't dried and you have to have the roof down all the time because of the wind. Also we have found leaks in different places that involved lots of drying of clothes stored under the seats.
We did find a lovely hotel which arranged for us to camp on the field of the school across the road and only charged us for our showers. We left a donation for the school in thanks.
Costa Rica has proved to be expensive when compared to other countries but again we are taken aback by the unfailing friendliness of everyone.
It was strange on Christmas day , it didn't feel at all like Christmas but at least we got to talk to the family which was great.
We did lots of things in Monteverde like walking the suspension bridges across the top of the cloud forest and also we did a night walk when we saw a very active sloth and a racoon peeping down at us from his tree . Terry did a canopy ride which involved zip lines across the forest and a bungee jumping Tarzan swing all of which he really enjoyed.
We seem to have found a bit of paradise here so I think we will stay put for a couple of days before heading north and then into Nicuragua. We have heard that the border crossing is very complicated, some people have even had a fixer to help them cross. Will let you know !!!
