We have travelled through lakes mountains and volcanoes. We then headed for the coast and have spent the last week travelling up the Pacific coastline. It is hard to describe the vastness of the beaches and the colour and the sound of the mighty ocean crashing onto the shoreline. We are so used to the vast seaside resorts that to find totally undeveloped coastline where even the so called holiday places are small and friendly is great. However we have passed through the devastation caused by earthquakes and then the tsunami of feb last year. We stopped for 1 night in a small town called Duchato and we were totally overwhelmed by our host Waldo who insisted on feeding us fabulous fish meals and bbq meals each night. He refused to let us pay for the food.We.stayed for 3 days and were sorry to leave. The town was completely wiped out in the tsunami and is still trying to return to normal, but no one moans but just tries to carry on, it is quite humbling. We are in Santiago today and are looking forward to flying to Easter Island on Monday for 4 days. The trucks are being serviced tomorrow and then we have to find secure parking for when we are away.
