On the bus into Central, Alex spotted a starred coffee shop from before. Why not?? Surry Hills is supposed to be where it's at anyway...and this could be our last proper coffee in Oz!!
Option of cold still or sparking mineral water. This was dispensed from a central tap, and was ice cold, and filtered. It was delicious and fabulous. Really impressed actually (as strange as that sounds). Much better than jugs of water, which empty themselves, and are always too warm.
Extraordinarily interesting decor. Some kind of comic book theme for the mad coffee professor. Very friendly staff, but not in an obtrusive way (wins points over the other snobby coffee places)
Just nowhere to sit... Haha!
Steady stream of takeaway punters, so this place is popular with the locals for lunchtime perks.
Our flat whites came in most unique crockery we've ever seen. ...and it even came on its own branded breadboard!
As for the actual coffee:-
I find it a little bit sour. A first actually. A totally new taste. Alice finds it a little cumbersome, minutes later saying, "I've got used to it, but it's smacking me with caffeine."
The flavour does subtly change as you drink, however. But unfortunately, it's just not a taste and/or journey we enjoyed.
In fact, chewing gum was required afterwards. It was like a challenging meal!!
So in the end, the uniqueness of the flavour was too challenging for us. But it was a fantastic experience to round off Sydney. Without doubt, the best coffee in Sydney is to be had in the CBD.
(A lowish 4... But a star so we remember how good the experience was)
Over and out.
