A coffee roaster and brewery in the industrial part of Port Macquarie.
We had a choice of 4 different beans for the flat white, and went for the barista's recommendation - Honduran.
It's strong - you can feel the caffeine hitting your bloodstream - but manages not to be overbearingly so, unlike many of the other 'posh' coffees we've tried.
Their tasting notes stated:
"Medium roast and certified fair trade organic . Sweet caramel flavours of honey almond with a smooth creamy finish."
It's difficult to assess the flavours when you know what it should taste like, but we agreed that it was creamy and smooth. Foxy thought it was more chocolatey than almond. What we quickly agreed on was that it was one of our favourite coffees so far.
The only thing lacking is the atmosphere in the cafe part. There's just one table in the middle of the shop selling coffee beans and paraphernalia. The business' office also appears to be within the 'cafe/shop' area - a chap is working at a laptop in the corner. Perhaps so that he can better focus, there is music playing where the baristas are but not in the shop/office. This all combined to make us feel like intruders; this place is more for take-aways than sitting in.
The coffee machines are facing us, which is new. It's been laid out in this way to save space, but the side effect is that we can watch the barista make our coffees at close range, which is interesting.
No tap water to be seen, which is a shame as we don't feel we can fully appreciate the coffee without it. If it had had water around, and possibly moved the business bit into the warehouse, this could have edged into top place!
