We sleep in late after our New Year's Eve excitement, finally surfacing to eat some breakfast, tea and a leftover cheese sandwich from our picnic, as a "dehydration headache" cure...
Our main event today is a trip to the cinema to see the new Star Wars film. Neither of us being particular Star Wars fans (I've never seen one of the films from beginning to end) it's just a decent blockbuster to us. I'm a little saddened that I haven't watched the others in preparation - I'm sure it would have meant more to us if we had!
Back home for a cuppa (and to see the cats), before we head to Coogee Beach to top up our tans. The beach is chocka, but we find a spot on the sand to lie and read. The surf looks pretty strong, so we don't swim. This turns out to be the right decision. As we're preparing to leave, there's a lifeguard announcement through the speakers. In a carefree manner, the lifeguard says: "We recommend you leave the water before the lifeguard shift ends . Conditions are dangerous. As you can see we have another spinal injury on the beach. Happy New Year." Flipping heck.
As we leave, we do indeed notice a cluster of lifeguards around a figure lying on the beach. The Australian surf is not to be underestimated.
We head back to our Airbnb, via Woolies for some veg, and prepare a feast of roasted veg and couscous for dinner.
We find a film starring Stephen Fry, Doors Open, on ABC iview, and watch this with dinner before bed.
