So... After a night's rest thinking about it, the car battery had recovered, and Jucy started. Huzzah.
However, we both discovered we had been bitten to death by mossies... Al Bal especially so. :-( (she counted 26 on her right leg alone)
Having grabbed another free tea from the driver reviver people, we stopped for posh coffee in Brunswick Heads, where we also found a beach area to cook scrambled eggs in the back of the RV and watched a tug of war at the Brunswick surf club nippers (that also included adults when a side started losing...).
Intended to go direct to the posh campsite we had identified, but a diversion to Crystal Castle via Moolabimbi took our fancy. This turned out to be some kind of 'Buddhist theme park', which even the Dalai Lama had visited. But it wanted to charge us $22 each for the pleasure. Not very hospitable! So we left sharpish.
Driving on, we saw signs for Minyon Falls, in Nightcap National Park. As this sounded interesting we gambled on it. Turned out to be a gamble that paid off handsomely! The road up was small, twisty and exciting, and the Falls themselves were epic - some 100m high. Australia really does do this nature thing well!
Swapping for the way back (so we could both share the driving), we felt a bit peckish... But were not convinced we could hold out until the next rest stop. So just before we turned back onto the Pacific Highway, we stopped in the 'traditional town' of Newrybar for lunch.
Initially seduced by the gourmet cafe that has free parking out back, we swapped oysters and prawns with the fine tucker fare the local corner shop offered - beef pie & beef and cheese pie. Much more authentic!
Full of pie, we arrived at Broken Heads vacation park. This is to be our one, 'luxury' RV sit whilst we hired Jucy .
We were however shocked to discover that the price for a hot shower (and site for 2 nights) had gone up, courtesy of Xmas... from $31 to $110!!
But we stuck with it. And soon we were swimming in the sea!! In fact this was the first time we had done this in Australia... (the caravan park backs out to the sea!)
Then a quick trip to Woolies where we bought a couple of huuuuuge t-bone steaks (convincing Al Bal by virtue of the fact that they look a bit like hearts...), cooking them together with onions and tomatoes on an outdoor BBQ in the park. Tasty!
Retiring to RV for the evening, listening to the crashing of the sea waves, we were both already looking forward to our day at the beach in the Holiday Park tomorrow!
