FARFRUMWURKEN
Today was a day off sort of, so we decided that we'd head to the Gran Museo del Mundo Maya that's in the northern part of Merida proper. But before we went to the museum we made our way to Wayan'es, a local taco bar where you get these excellent little tacos made of pork belly, fajitas w/cheese served on little taco shells, all for the amazing price of $0.55US. We had a pretty cheap but nice lunch at this place. We then grabbed a UBER ($75.00P or $3.75US) up to the Museo - our driver was Caesar and enroute we asked him if he would come back to pick us up in three hours at the spot he dropped us off at. We'll see what happens we thought.
This museum is dedicated to the Mayan way of life, it's history, it's culture and thousands of artifacts that have been uncovered over time. Sure, most of the audio, most of the written word is in Spanish but you can certainly see (but NO touch) these amazing statues, jewelry, pottery and the type of communities that they lived in thousands of years ago. Easily we spent 2 hours in this modern, futuristic building. One of the security guards said to us "don't miss the Cenote over at Costco - you need to see it" he said. So after we were finished we wandered next door to see our first Cenote. There are quite a few all over Mexico, but this one was discovered when they were building the Costco store, so it's out front in the parking lot, but barricaded off to prevent anyone jumping into the waters below.
Because we were so close we thought we'd also do a little price shopping at one of the more upscale department stores in the north end called Liverpool. With our recent purchase, we thought we'd better get a handle on some of the furnishing costs that we'll incur in the next few months. We've been told that the best time to buy anything electronic is on Black Friday which is the 2nd or 3rd week in November - apparently prices on fridges, stoves and the like are upwards of 60% off, so we're waiting until then to pull the trigger.
I've attached some of the shots I took today at the museum, which I hope you like. Some of these just might be converted to large, framed prints for the new casa. I'm off to the digital print store to print off a 4' x 4' sample just to see how they come out.
Only ten more days, we're counting down the time left before we have to get ourselves back to Cancun for our flight home. My dentist appointment is tomorrow and still no worries. Stay tuned.

Ian Hair Bob, great idea to use some of those wonderful museum shots as art work for your casa. Some would look awesome just printed onto stretched canvas or others enclosed in rustic-type frames. Get those creative juices flowing. BTW Bob, what is a Cenote?
Liz Rosa Ax always loving reading your blog. You should try to get to Chichen Itza. That'll educate you on Mayan culture. It's a fantastic experience.
Robert Forster It just proves that great minds think alike. I went to a digital printer today to get two of my shots enlarged as a test. I will see the results tomorrow. One enlargement of a Mayan stoned face will end up being 4' x 6' - as the Donald would say - Huuuuuge.
