FARFRUMWURKEN
Today is a big day in Deborah's life - some would say another year older, others would say another year wiser. One of the main things we had to do today was head to our new bank to pickup the information on our new chequing account and currency accounts that we set up at Intercam.
I've opened accounts before in both U.S. and Canada, but never, never have I ever seen so many signatures and security provisions required to get our on-line accounts put in place. Because we'll need the on-line service we have been given a "password fob" that changes our pass code every ten seconds. I'm not sure why Canada has not implemented such precautions, but I do feel very comfortable with what we've put in place to handle the wire transfers and currency conversions of both US and CAN$'s for the next few months.
Our landscapers showed up this afternoon. The two fellas worked for about 3 hours or so in the back area, hand scraping all the yard (no blowers I guess because of the dirt and leaves that would hit the pool), trimming the trees and shrubs - good job guys.
Tonight was the big night - Hennessy's Irish Pub for St. Paddy's Day and Deb's birthday. It was a little surreal for us because the owner of Hennessy's was the Real Estate agent that co-ordinated the deal on our two lots. So with hundreds of ex-pats vying for a seat, we had reserved seats up on the second level. Thanks Colm, thanks Shaun - you really know how to throw a great party. Bob & Denice joined us for the birthday celebrations so that was an added bonus. After some great tunes from a great local band, we grabbed an UBER and headed back to the ranch. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWEETHEART !
So many people that have been following my blog have been asking for me to post some pictures of our casa plans. I've attached a few shots that we took of the "template" for our construction. This is a home that's about a year or so old, but will have many of the same details we're hoping for in our new retirement/rental home. Hope you all like what you see.

Tom and Jamie HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEB!
Tom and Jamie Wow, you sure built the new place fast. I have a constantly changing fob on a Canadian bank account btw.
Angie Armstrong Sounds very exciting! Just wondering the reason for purchasing lots and building vs just renting homes as you go? Seems a great deal of effort. Is it purely investment? PS: how is Mrs. Forster (Marie) doing? Does she still use email/Facebook?
Sandra Exceptionally Beautiful!! Happy Birthday Deborah!! Pls bring home with u some sunshine!!
Robert Forster Well Angie, our longer-term master plan is to live outside of Canada for 6-months at some point in time, knowing that we will have to maintain a home in Canada for 12-months, it get's a little pricey. During the initial first few years we will likely rent out this Merida property for maybe 10-months of the year that could likely generate some big US bucks, if we can rent it for the total available time. So, yes, a bit investment, a bit long-term plan. A friend we know here has tripled their investment in just six years
Angie Armstrong Well good for you both, it sounds like a great place to have a home. All the best to Deborah, never met her but I feel I know her a bit from your blogs, seems like a lovely lady. How's your Mom doing?
Robert Forster We'll do the best we can Sandra - we've been here 21 days and not ONE drop of rain.
Robert Forster Angie, thanks about asking about my Mom. She's great, this year she'll be 98. I can't believe how well she is keeping up. Yes she does have both email and Facebook, maybe not as regular as she used to be but I'm the first to get a call when her email is down.
