…Being an Aussie bookworm. Ruby red hair…
Carrying on with the Australian literature series recommended by the Baptist Street girls this week I finished reading the Mint Lawn by Gillian Myers, Sean & Dave's Long Drive by Sean Condon and Cosi by Louis Nowra.
All three books are extremely different with the Mint Lawn being a beautifully descriptive fictional story about a young woman's journey into adult life in small town New South Wales; Sean & Dave's Long Drive is a comical novel on two Melbourne guys journey around Australia; and Cosi is a semi-autobiographical play based in a Melbourne 1970s psychiatric hospital.
Its really interesting reading about areas I've travelled through & going to, seeing the Australian lifestyle from various perspectives and appreciating the small social references that are mentioned within the books. I've just started Rhett Hutchence's Autobiography Total XS, being the younger brother of Michael Hutchence it should make for an interesting read.
Other than being a bookworm this week I've had my hair coloured again it's now ruby red and blonde. As I'm in the Land of Oz I thought ruby red was quite fitting, admittedly enough there is no place like home, and even though I've had many "Toto we're not in Kansas anymore" moments I'm still not quite ready to click my heels three times and head back home.
This evening I had a lovely night in with my housemate Anna where I cooked the two us dinner and we enjoyed a bottle of red whilst chattering away into the evening before realising I still hadn't packed for my weekend excursion to the Blue Mountains which I've got to get up at the crack of dawn for. Oh well I'll sleep on the bus!
