…Blue Mountains: Wentworth Falls walk. Furber Steps. Scenic Railway…
Talk about a wet n wild Oz experience. I headed off to the Blue Mountains today in the pouring of rain but still had an amazing time. Sydney is currently getting the tail end of some tropical storms but the delights of these mountains set to the west of the city couldn't be spoilt by the immense downpour.
We began the excursion by going for a walk through the mountains to Wentworth Falls. Because of the excess rainwater the waterfall was even more amazing as the energy and power flowing through was increased to be more intense. Even with it being overcast the views were still spectacular and you got to really appreciate the lush green eucalypt valleys below.
We also took a trip down the Furber Steps that descend one of the mountains passing thorough the woods of eucalypt trees, ferns, and falls. Afterwards we headed back up on the world's steepest railway.
Unfortunately due to the immense blanket of fog we never got to see the Three Sisters but I'm not too fussed as it's only a rock formation and the rest of the trip was so much fun and met some pretty cool.
Before I got dropped off at the YHA in Katoomba and the others got taken back to the city we finished the day off in style with some mini-champers.
It wasn't until getting off the bus we realised who the leech we spotted earlier had been munching on… me! I couldn't even feel the little blood sucker.
In the evening I chilled out in front of the fire at the YHA and then headed out into Katoomba with some Spanish girls I met. We found this wonderful restaurant called Mountain Harvest that cooked everything from scratch with the most amazing fresh ingredients. I had the most unbelievable mouth watering Deep Ocean Trout. Afterwards we carried on with a few drinks and I got myself psyched up for my adventure caving expedition tomorrow.
