Adventures of a Global Wanderer
Behind the former British Consulate near the HSBC Building was Hollander Slope. This is where the Dutch Europeans built a later settlement after the original Dejima one by the wharf. There continued to be unusually european characteristic homes in this far eastern part of the world. To begin with is a long cobbled slope leading up to homes, hence the name of the street The path was well marked for tourists and the first home I went into was the former US Consulate. Entry was free and you could wander around the consular rooms and private quarters. After that I followed the slope and the signs to the other homes you could enter. The slope is multi level and you could see the tiles and architecture of the homes one level down They were prettily painted in their wood design and were picturesque with their plants and flowers The next three homes had been converted to a photo gallery for 100Y admission ($1.25). I didnt want to pay to enter but as I walked along to take pictures from outside I was able to walk into each home as there was no one attending. I just took a couple of door and windows shots and left as I hadnt really payed to go in and look around, but it was very picturesque again
