Adventures of a Global Wanderer
My afternoon exploring Nagasaki continued as I tried to find the former British Consulate. On the map it was close to the HSBC banking building. From the tram stop I found what I thought was the consulate but was instead the Bekko Musuem in another historical building. I backtracked and found it but the building was closed and you couldnt go inside the main gate. It was easy to find the HSBC which was a grand building with roman style columns After paying 100Y admission ($1.25) you are in the main banking hall. It had a lot of solid wood and had an old victorian feel to it. Then you could go up the staircase to what would have been the private areas The carpetting and wood handrails were very reminiscent of the types of homes I grew up in England. The corridors had different rooms branching off. Some were private meeting rooms and had original meeting room furniture from that time From one of the rooms you could walk out onto the upper floor terrace. Here was a great view of he harbour with the clear weather we were having that day
