Adventures of a Global Wanderer
This morning I left the hotel early at 7.50 to travel to Nagasaki and spend a full day exploring. The storm had completely cleared and it was clear blue skies. It took about 25 mins to walk to the station and I found out the train will take 2.5hrs due to a change over. The way Kyushu Island is shaped there is no direct train to Nagasaki from Kumamoto. The simplist way was to take the bullet train north to Fukuoka. However, to then get off at Shin-Tosu and switch to the Nagasaki line. Throughout Kyushu Island I haed been noticing moutaintop stupa style temples similar to those in Mongolia or Cambodia. I found it strange that they were only in Kyushu Island and that I hadnt seen them in my earlier trip to Japan The bullet train to Shin-Tosu was only about 20 mins. However, then you had to transfer to a set of different local tracks seperate from the high speed tracks that were in an elevated station and perpendicular to the high speed tracks. This seemed a much simpler local style station like the local stations you have in the UK. A small two carriage glass train came by and I wondered was it going to be like this making little stops all the way to Nagasaki. Luckily when our train pulled it was another long bullet train. We passed by the folk village I was going to see the next day but it was so quick I didnt have time to photograph it. It then became very scenic as we rode along the ocean coastline. We saw many fishing hamlets and coastal towns. There was a clear blue sky against the blue sea and we soon arrived at Nagasaki. Surprisingly this was a very simple station with outdoor tracks, unlike the massive shopping centres of other Japanese cities. Many were stopping to take pictures with the resting bullet trains. I was now in the historic city of Nagasaki and looked forward to a day of exploring
