A pretty early start today as we were worried the policia may book us for camping in the city. No need to worry as the other campers were all still there in the morning. We had a nice feed of steak and eggs then locked the van and headed in for a look around. About 5 minutes walk and we were at a beach. It was pushing 20 degs, the sun was shining and no wind to be felt. We realized we were incorrectly dressed so went back to the van to change out of jeans then back to the beach. It was beautiful golden sandy beaches so we wandered along before hitting the streets to head into the city centre. We walked along the promenade past roman ruins, always with the Mediterranean beside us. It was several shades of the most amazing blues that you could imagine. It opened back out on to the main beach so we wandered along splashing in the edges of the ocean as it lapped against the shore. My tan was developing and we were feeling pretty good about where we were at this point in time. We then headed up for a look at the shops before returning to the beach. We needed to find wifi to plan our next move so settled on a restaurant and some pretty amazing tapas. In fact the second best tapas we've ever had. Funnily enough the best was Amsterdam, but that may have been the company we were in. We found a few free camping sites on the way north so headed back to the van and headed off. We were sad to say goodbye to Calp but hopefully we could find somewhere else nice. The climb out of the city was nice and then we hit mile after mile of orchard trees. We noticed girls sitting on the side of the road on plastic chairs, most wearing mini skirts. We wondered for a sec what they were doing but then it dawned on us, they were hookers. Now these weren't your high class, or even medium class hookers. Let's face it if your sitting on a cheap plastic chair, on the side of a dusty road in an orchard selling yourself then your life hasn't really peaked the way you would have imagined. So you can really imagine the attractiveness of these girls. We did manage to get a few photos as we zoomed by, just for interest. Staying on the coast we headed up past Valencia trying quite a few different free camping places but they all turned out to be not adequate. It was getting late in the day and we had a suspicion that salvation would lie in one of the coolest place names ever, Peniscola. Yep Peniscola has turned out to be not just an awesome name. It is a great town with an imposing castle dominating the skyline. We looked at free parks to spend the night but all the van parks here have a low season rate of €6 per night. At that rate we can shower and wash and cook with ease. And so it is that here we are tonight in Peniscola. Not just a cool name, not just cheap accommodation, not just a pretty place, but a bit of salvation for weary travellers. So tomorrow we shall drink in Peniscola and savior the taste. Cause that's the kind of town Peniscola is.
