We both had crappy sleeps as we were pretty chilly and not quite as comfortable as we would want. But to make matters worse we woke to the sound that no camper wants to hear, rain. It had rained most of the early morning but thankfully as we prepared to get up, it did stop. Long enough for a feed of sausages and eggs to be cooked. We then packed up and hit the mountains. They were covered in mist and the rain hit at various parts but we got to see some amazing landscapes. The road winded up and down the side of the mountains enabling us to see the small white Spanish villages dotted on the sides. To start out the mountains were covered in almost rainforest vegetation. After a while this gave way to semi arid then nothing but rocks. Throughout the day we saw valleys, plains & gorges. The Spanish countryside was extremely beautiful and varied. Our first stop of the day, other than lookouts, was in a place called Ronda. It is one of the most ancient cities in Spain, so there are marks throughout from all the ancient civilizations. What makes it so amazing though is that it has a 120 metre gorge that cuts the town in 2. In the 1700's they built a bridge spanning the gap giving it it's icon for which everyone comes to see. We spent a few hours wandering the streets and taking all the recommended photos. All the while the rain continued to make its presence known. Eventually it was time to move on and it was just in time. As we had finished topping up the van with water & fuel, the heavens opened. Thankfully we were nice and dry in the camper but it made for some slow driving. After a few hours we made it to Alhama De Granada to bathe in hot springs we had heard about. However arriving in a small town on Easter Sunday there was no one to ask or any real signage. We eventually worked out where they might be, so made our way there through stupid old narrow streets. When we arrived there were fences up and the place looked abandoned. We were about to drive off when I thought I would wander down to the river. As I got near the banks I saw people lying in rock pools so realized we had found them. I got Jac and we went and lay in the pools with a few Spanish nudists. If you didn't know about them you wouldn't have a clue they were there as they are just an overflow from proper baths (that have been abandoned) and blend in with the river. We spent half an hour soaking away in the warmth before heading back to the van to continue the journey. Not a bad little find. We thought we would head to Granada next but hopefully find a van park before we got there. We arrived at the city with no such luck and then the heavens absolutely opened. I'm talking the sort of rain that creates flash flooding it was that bad. So it was pointless pulling over, so we turned for the coast and a place called Motril in the hope we could find a place. The rain chased us most of the way but thankfully just as we arrived it stopped. Once again we couldn't find anywhere to stay so turned north. It was pretty late by then so about 10 k's out of Motril we came close to the coast again. Turning from the highway we have found a parking spot on the beach with a few other campers. But it is blowing gale force winds outside so trying to cook would prove futile as a result we made a bread roll and then retired. We've seen amazing countryside today but it is too much driving with nowhere to stay tonight. Tomorrow we are going to plan a bit better and have a target van park sorted, then hot showers and washing. Well that's if we don't get blown to France tonight that is.
