We had a good day today. We spent the first half of the day trawling the net looking for homes. It looks like we are going to have to get a 6 month lease as we have struggled to get short term places. We will go with some estate agents next week to check out some places and make a choice for one we are happy with. There are plenty out there. The good news is we have an apartment organised for next week. Fully furnished so that gives us the base from which to look around which is a huge relief and let's us concentrate on the next stage.
In the afternoon we headed up to the Acropolis. After a short walk we were told it was closing in 10 minutes. No matter as we will come back tomorrow. As it was a beautiful day we decided to just wander and headed past plenty of ruins towards Nimfon Hill. After a fair bit of hiking we passed the prison of Socrates and the hill of the muses. The view across Athens was spectacular. The hills are like an oasis above the city. We continued wandering and found a beautiful spot to look out over the city as we had a drink. We spent half an hour discussing our London plans and just loving the view.
On the way back we started chatting to a young guy from Italy. We sat down and talked about life and traveling for the next 2 hours. He was a street juggler who was free from commitments and living a very simple life. A genuinely friendly and warm hearted soul we were so shocked to learn he was only 17. Carlo was mature beyond his years and definately had his head screwed on. It was a pleasure to cross paths in our lives for a few hours and enjoy each others company.
It started getting late so we said our goodbyes and made our way back to the Metro. We got some supplies and a feed before heading back to the hotel. Between the sun, meeting Carlo and our success with the flat we are in good spirits. Tomorrow we will be able to do more sightseeing and just enjoy some free time. Yep, today was a good day.
