Crew Frivolous
Wednesday 22nd
We had our breakfast this morning while watching more humpback whales. We would have liked to stay at Red Bluff for longer but it was time to head towards the Shark Bay area. We booked into the Nanga Bay Resort (my definition of resort is way different to theirs ha ha) for a couple of nights. Joe went fishing in the bay, this time with 3 fishing rods and I sat on the beach reading. There was NO WIND here – YAY!!! But no fish either.
Thursday 23rd
Up bright and early this morning and drove to Monkey Mia to see the dolphins. We arrived just as they started their morning chat and watched about 9 dolphins swimming in the bay. There were a couple of young male dolphins in the group and they were quite playful which was lovely to watch. We also saw a turtle. People were chosen randomly to feed the dolphins (about 10 I think). They only feed the females as the males can become too aggressive. We waited around for the second feeding as well. Only 2 dolphins came in for this.
We decided to go and explore Francois Peron National Park. After dropping the tyre pressure we made our way to Big Lagoon. The single lane red sandy tracks changed after here and got softer and we had a great time dodging and weaving our way to the end of the NP to Cape Peron and Skip Point.
We stopped in Denham on our return and had a beer at the Shark Bay Hotel (The Old Pub) Australia's Most Westerly Hotel.
On the way back to our 'resort’ we stopped off at Denham Lookout, the Thong Shack and then at Eagle Bluff where we saw a shark, a giant shovel-nose ray and a turtle. Our last stop was at Shell Beach. This beach is all made up of Hamelin Cockle Shells 10 metres deep, 1 km wide and stretching 120 km into the bight.
We arrived back to the park just before Wendy & Colin arrived after their long day on the road. Was great to have them back with us and of course we caught up on all the news over a couple of drinks.
