We've been trying out new places to eat lately, and have had some really good meals. Before I came, I really wasn't sure what to expect in terms of food, as I had heard the food here used to be on the not so great side. The most actually authentic type Irish dishes I've had are fish and chips and beef stew. More recently, I've eaten twice at the English Market, which is like an indoor farmers market with all fresh vegetables, fruits, desserts, meats, and eggs. It's definitely a good amount of walking from where I am living, since it's about a good 35 minute walk, as it is located in City Centre. It's also closed on Sundays. There's a cafe upstairs that serves really fresh foods. I got a spicy chicken sandwich one day, which I could tell was on fresh bread, and then another time I got sweet potato soup that is served with brown bread, and then with a chick pea salad that had sundried tomatoes, feta cheese, and spinach in it. I will definitely be back there to try new things each time. They also have a big assortment of fresh cakes, quiches, croissants, and scones (I try to stay away from these but it's been dangerous to keep looking at them). On Wednesday night, all of my roommates and I went to Amicus Restaurant for dinner, which was the restaurant the whole Quinnipiac group went to on one of our first nights here. The food from here is all fresh from the English Market, and we really liked it when we went and have been wanting to go back. I tried something different this time and got the Organic Penne and Chorizo which was penne with chorizo, olives, and asparagus in a spicy red sauce. I have also been doing a lot of cooking in our kitchen. I've made chicken stir fry with onions and peppers over brown rice a good number of times, and I made a salad on the side to go with it. I've also made shrimp over rice that has come out good as well. For breakfast I've been making eggs usually with fruit, or I'll put my eggs on a wheat seeded bagel and put a slice of cheese on top and then a side of avocado, so I haven't been too food deprived since food is on the top of my list. A travel update: I'm going to the Ring of Kerry Weekend starting tomorrow (January 30). We are taking a bus there and staying at a hotel for two nights. I also have a trip to London planned for next Wednesday-Saturday (February 4-7).
