For our day off from classes on Friday, I took a trip to Cobh with Sarah and Gabby. We took the bus from outside our dorms down into City Centre to get the train from the Cork Kent Irish Rail. The train ride into Cobh was about 25 minutes and it was only 8.50 euro round trip. We got to see some of the rolling hills with cows on our ride over. It was such a nice day out and it was really sunny, a perfect day to be by the water. When we got off the train, we just explored around and walked along the water. We walked all along the sidewalks in town and found a cute place to eat at called Seaview Cafe and Bistro, where we sat in the window in the sun. It's been raining and even snowing lately, so the sun was really nice. The good thing about the rain is that it really makes me appreciate the sunny days even more. However, I did hear someone say they went to buy rain boots at the store and the salesperson said that this month wasn't even rainy season and they weren't selling rainboots yet, so I'm not really sure what that means, but I'm hoping the rain lightens up as it gets closer to Spring. At the restaurant, I got a Mexican style wrap with chicken, cheese, guacamole, and salsa, and then vegetable soup. I ordered a scone for dessert and it was served warm and was so good; I was really excited to have my first scone since I've been here. We walked around the town a little more and went down the streets with all the different colored buildings, which has been one of my favorite things to see since I've been here. This was also the first time I've seen water like this since we arrived, so just to see boats in the water was really nice. There were even little palm trees by the water, so I definitely can't wait to come back here and visit again. We walked up large steps behind some houses, which were all really close together, and found a church. We found St. Colman's Cathedral. It was so big and had really pretty stained glass windows. The architecture on a lot of the buildings here is really different, so I'm really looking forward to doing some more sightseeing. The town was also really big on The Titanic and there was a Titanic restaurant along with a Titanic Museum that I would like to visit another time. Seeing the water was such a nice change of pace and was so relaxing.
