Now that Emma is up visiting, we decided to take a mini trip to break up the rest of our time in Ireland. We booked flights out of Cork for convenience to Faro, Portugal which is along the water. We left on Thursday night for our flight. We stopped for dinner at an authentic place that was close to our hostel just to make it easy. No one there spoke Enlgish and I accidentally ordered a fish egg salad and Emma's salad wasn't appetizing either, so that was an interesting experience. On Friday, we explored the downtown Marina area of Faro. We decided to go kayaking and did that for most of the day. We paddled against the current pretty much all day, so we were definitely tired after that. It was so warm out and we got to stop our kayaks at different island beaches throughout the water. The area we paddled through also was almost like a marsh with native birds flying throughout it. We paddled back to shore for dinner and went back to our hostel. On Saturday, we woke up early to take a ferry to Ilha Deserta which is a long stretch of beach with one restaurant, Estamine. People on the ferry were bringing food over for the restaurant since it's far out in the water. Mainly tourists visit the Island, with natives working along the island. It was in the 80's when we went. Tiki hut umbrellas were set up when we went so it was nice to have a break in the shade since we have been used to so much rain in Ireland. We got to go in the water too, which was actually the Atlantic. We took the ferry back to the Faro Marina and then went to eat. Our flight out was Sunday morning, so we got back to Cork and when we landed it was pouring rain, a big change from the hot sun in Portugal. The people there were really insistent on us putting sunscreen on, and we ended up going through a whole bottle in two days. It was a nice getaway and change of scenery. The language barrier was probably the hardest part for us. We now have 5 days left in Cork, and I will be flying home on Saturday May 16!
