Phew it was hot when we woke up and even worse by the time we hit the road at 8.30am. We had a really hot trip all the way into Perth. The Great Eastern Highway was a little willing at times as we navigated the hills but eventually we were on the flat and all was well.
I rang a few caravan parks to be told they don't take buses but one that did was Central Caravan Park which was just off the Great Eastern Highway and not too far out of the city. We booked in and who should be there but Steve and Noelene. Once we’d got ourselves sorted we went to their bus for a well deserved drink. Bet rang just after we’d arrived to say it was cold in Adelaide! Even with the air conditioner on it was really hot (39.1 degrees) and there was even a fire next door. I felt very sorry for the firies having to deal with this on a day like today, I hope it wasn’t deliberately lit. The caravan park backs onto the Swan River, a lovely setting and clearly a favourite swimming area but a lot of dry growth and rubbish about, well not any more because it’s burnt.
Later in the afternoon we drove up to Kings Park through the city (it’s been a while since I’ve been in one) to watch the lightning, it’s a beautiful park and the views are amazing, I know I could never do them justice so I didn’t try but I’m sure I’ll give it a go next time. I expect we’ll be seeing a lot more of Kings Park. There were heaps of people around; picnicking, canoodling, strolling, parading, ambling, swaggering and chasing after kids, I guess they were enjoying their Sunday night before getting back into the work week again tomorrow. I was feeling a bit smug because I don’t have to think about the work week, I’m on holidays!!
We really need to do something, and soon about the "temporary window" at the back of the moke. We are in the big smoke now!
I’m excited to be here and wonder what the future holds, we will discuss over the ensuing days, weeks, months and decide whether this is where we want to be. But for now Perth it is!
