It drizzled a bit before we got up, not a lot but enough to dampen the tent. b***** hate packing up a damp tent. Anyhow after breakfast I had another shower and we hit the road.
Had to rug up as it was pretty chilly.
We made our first stop of the day the karri forest we'd been told aboutlast night and those trees are ginormous. I wonder how many more years they’ll be around. As we walked amongst them we felt truly dwarfed, what magnificent specimens they are.
We stopped for morning tea (home-made banana cake still) on theBlackwood River near Nannup.
We followed the scenic route to Balingup which was just beautiful. Some astonishing houses built in amongst the tall trees and along the Balingup Brook. Such a stunning part of the country. We stopped at the Old Cheese Factory which is now a huge craft shop
which was quite interesting. Lunch was calling so we headed to Donnybrook (best known for apples) but we visited their very attractive looking bakery and walked out with a pie for him and the biggest pasty I’ve ever seen for me. Just as an aside….they were extremely yummy!
We continued on to Collie (again) and Kimbo rang to find out what was happening with the bus…….not ready until at least Monday……oh s***!!!
We decided to push on to Dwellingup (not that there are many kms to do) but there is so much to see. Harris Dam was a brand new dam and a sight to see. Oh my so many dams we've seen in the last couple of days. A couple of huge logging trucks passed us and was a good reminder of the roads we’re traversing.
We finally ended up at Baden Powell (the scout site) that we’d happened upon a couple of months ago. The trees are mainly pine so quite different to what we’ve been around. We went on a wood hunt and found plenty and there’s nothing nicer than the smell of dried pine cones burning. Love that all these spots have
fire places and an abundance of wood that we can use, I guess when you’re in a forest it shouldn’t be that remarkable. The fire was very welcome as it’d been a bit chilly during the day and for me way too chilly once the sun started to dip. I guess being in a pine forest will account for the coolness.
We think we might take
Jacky and Michael up on their offer of a place to stay as we’ve come away completely unprepared for a week away. We've run out of clean crusties and I'm sick of wearing the same two outfits!!! Love the sound of a crackling fire and always a nice sound to go to sleep to. I did however wake up a couple of times feeling cold. It seems ridiculous here we are almost mid-December and I’m cold.
