Oh Western Australia why don't you have daylight saving!!!! The sun was up at 4.30am and I fought it until 6.00am!
Steve and Julia were already up and taking in the serenity of the morning, they left before us (as everybody does) and we said we'd catch up with them in Norseman for our farewells.
We were very grateful to have a battery charger over switch as the start battery was flat because in Kimbo's excitement yesterday realising that we were in the same spot as Steve and Julia he forgot to switch off the ignition!!
We were not far down the road when we saw what looked like a smouldering fire........indeed it was, so not only were we able to empty our grey water tank but it allowed us to put the fire out. Don't get why people leave a fire that hasn't been put out with water not just smouldering but well alight, it could have had terrible consequences. Although there had been a dew overnight and cool, there was enough dry fuel around for a fire to take hold without any trouble at all.
Thankfully we arrived in Norseman in time for a cuppa with Julia and Steve. It always feels like we've popped out of a tunnel when we hit Norseman. Love the trip across the Nullarbor no matter which way we're going. It's one of our great road trips. Many would say it's boring but it never ceases to amaze me that we can still travel for hundreds of kilometres and not see a town/settlement (I don't call roadhouses a town/settlement), let alone all the characters we see along the way
Before we knew it, it was time to say farewell to Steve and Julia as they continued onto Kalgoorlie.
We took a left-hander and made our way south through Salmon Gums and Grass Patch and the further south we went the more miserable the weather became. It was windy as we expected so no surprises there. The salmon gums are wonderful to see and are a great reminder that we're back in Western Australia. Wildflowers abound as there's been so much rain, the countryside is looking fabulous and I believe the grain harvest this year is going to be huge.
Sadly the fuel depot Steve told us about in Esperance is no longer there so we decided to push on.
By 3.30pm we'd had enough, it was cold, overcast and drizzly - the maximum for the day had only reached 20, so a parking bay alongside the South Coast Highway was it. There were lots of grain trucks going backwards and forwards so could be a not so quiet night's sleep.
Caught up on emails and we even watched some tele.
