We started today by deciding to get the local ferry over to Ernakulam for the day. It would be somewhere different to look around and there is an art show on throughout Ernakulam and Fort Cochin. We got to the ferry port in Fort Cochin paid 2 1/2 pence each for the 20 minute ferry ride!! Ernakulam was very busy when we got there it was quite a big place which we had a wander round and found one of the art venues £1 for both of us and the ticket will get us into all of the other venues too. Whilst walking round Ernakulam we found a bakery for a snack we got veg puffs for 20p and two pieces of brownie for 60p, and they were lovely. This is the cheapest place we have been so far! We found our way back to the boat jetty, this time though there were enormous queues. A good thing though is that there were different queues for men and women, the women's queue was only a third of the men's so I got queuing! We got the ferry back and walked back to the hotel. Sat outside was a bloke called John from London, originally from New Zealand, who we have been talking to at breakfast most days and when we've bumped into him. We got chatting to him and he asked where we were going for dinner tonight. We hadn't decided yet but invited him along, so we arranged to go out for dinner with him tonight which was nice for a change. After having showers etc we went out to a place called Hotel Seagull, they had some people playing acoustic music in there which was good, we played guess the tune and chatted over dinner and a few beers. John told us he was one of the big bad bankers who got made redundant, earlier last year. So he's travelling on some of his redundancy money, the rest he's going to put into opening his own coffee shop in London. He's a very interesting bloke, with two law degrees, an MBA and studying a Masters in Art makes him a clever bloke too!
We wandered back to our place a little later than we had hoped for because we have a bus to catch to Munnar in the morning but hey ho. John and James exchanged email addresses as John is heading to Varkala later as are we and we should be there at the same time so it would be nice to meet up again.
