I so wanted today to be an amazing day to rediscover London & share it with Sean. Unfortunately after a terrible nights sleep from the heat & a sore throat it was a very slow start to the day. I hadn't changed the time on my phone so got up & headed out to the local Sainsbury's earlier than I thought grabbing some breakfast & medicines. After a slow breakfast we finally headed out at 10am to firstly take our washing to the local laundrette for a service wash (£18 mind you!!) then once again past covent garden & onto Leicester square & then Piccadilly Circus. Time for a bit of retail therapy, or window shopping at least, we headed up towards Oxford street & stopped for an Iced Coffee/chocolate before tackling the flagship Primark store. I found a few things & headed to try them on but after waiting in the queue for the change rooms for 5 or so minutes I realised the line up ahead actually wrapped around left, the back rather than straight ahead. Not wanting to spend half the day in the queue I put stuff back & headed outside to find Sean. We were right near Hyde Park so grabbed some takeaway lunch & headed across the park towards the serpentine for a picnic. I had a yummy chicken noodle salad which was well worth the £4.85. Both our feet were already feeling tired today so we slowly plodded towards Buckingham Palace for a look at the guards & a photo or two. The sun definitely had some bite to it if you weren't in the shade so we soon head off through the shade of St James' park towards Trafalgar square which unlike the first time I visited was full of tourists instead of pigeons. With only 2 bus lines still running with the old style double decker buses & both passing by here we waited for the No. 15 to take us to Aldwych from where we walked up to pick up our laundry then head back to our room to put our feet up for a bit. As I had lost my pedometer somewhere in the sands of Dubai I went for a walk to get another from a nearby Argos which ended up being not very nearby at all. On the way back I stopped to get some ice creams but most of the individual ones were sold out so I instead grabbed a tub of Ben & Jerry's Half Baked which Sean & I greedily devoured before getting ready to meet Jen in covent garden for dinner. We met under the balcony of Punch & Judy's but went to have dinner at Jamie Oliver's Union Jack restaurant which did everyday British food. We had some shared plates to start- garlic fried mushrooms, prawn cocktail and salt & vinegar crinkle cut chips. The garlic mushrooms were the pick as the chips were not at all vinegary & the prawns were miniscule. We then shared a pizza with Cumberland sausage, caramelised onion & cheese as well as plenty of gossip & travel stories. Along with the pizza we also shared a plate of broccolini, bacon & roasted garlic. All up with drinks it was only £20 each which was pretty good considering we were sitting in the north hall of Covent garden & it was a celebrity chef's restaurant. After a long dinner & catch up we headed back to the hotel to organise our stuff for an early train to Edinburgh in the morning.
