Up early for our immigration meeting at 6.55, as expected it turned out to be quite a pointless exercise. Straight to breakfast then off the ship not long after clearance- no tender after all! It was about a 20 min walk into the centre of town & being 8am nothing was open when we first wandered through the sporadicly designed pedestrian street which was lined with shops. Heading along the water & up towards the fancy looking high school we started the walking trail around 'The Knabb' which is a rocky outcrop at the edge of town were we might have been lucky enough to see a puffin. The walk was quite a bit longer than we expected & despite being early still the sun was surprisingly hot. We did spot a seal swimming around but unfortunately no puffins :-( At the end of the walk it was only a few hundred metres to the Broch of Clickimin- a roundhouse from 1900-2300 years ago. Set on the side of a small lake it had outer stone walls & a taller internal roundhouse which we were able to walk through as well as crawl into the small rooms contained within the double walls. Archeology & fauna hunting done we walked back into the centre of town for a bit of op-shopping (me) & pub visiting (Sean) before heading back to the ship for our early 1pm departure. We had had an enjoyable few hours wandering around sunny Lerwick & it would have been nice to have longer so we could have explored this remote group of islands a little more. Back on the ship it was lunch time (the buffet was heaving with people having all returned around the same time from their Shetland adventures) & then nap time. Having the whole afternoon on the boat we also managed afternoon tea & I got sucked in by a movie on the tv in our cabin. Shocked by the line outside the restaurant at 8pm we went to watch the first 15mins of the stage show, which turned out to be more than enough time & then went back to dine. Dinner was once again good although tonight we seemed to have got ourselves the faulty towers waiters as they kept putting plates down in front of the wrong people which we had never had on a cruise before. The drink waiter was also very hard to understand & slow with our order & water top ups. Need I add no offer of cracked pepper! Not much on that inspired us for the evening so we were soon in bed.
