Woke up at 8.30, the latest I've been up this holiday. Made my way up to the terrace for a delicious breakfast, being very over indulgent, (well why not, it's the end of the holiday). After sitting out on the deck by the poolside for a while after breakfast, I checked out of my room, and spent the rest of the day either swimming or soaking up the last of the rays (34 degrees). Met some nice blokes from Yorkshire who are over for the cricket, (and scored a number)...

Left The Mount Lavinia at around 4.30pm in a pre ordered taxi. It took around 1.5 hours to reach the airport through the Colombo traffic.

Woke up at 7.15 for breakfast at 7.45. Checked out of the hotel at 9.00 and took a tuk tuk to The Mount Lavinia hotel where Fiona had made me a reservation. A bit of luxury at the end if the holiday is just what I needed. After spending 1/2 hour at the hatchery, we boarded the bus and headed on to Galle. Galle became prominent with the arrival of the Europeans in 1505, when a Portugese fleet arrived, having been blown off course from the Maldives and took shelter in the harbour. Apparently, on hearing a c*** crowing (gallo in Portugese), the town was given its name Galle which has stuck to this day. Woke up at 7.15, for breakfast at 8.00 and ready to leave hotel in Anghangama at 8.30. Our first stop was a family run turtle hatchery. The hatchery buy the turtle eggs from fishermen for a little mire money than they would otherwise earn if they skid them to be eaten. The eggs are then buried for 65 days when they will hatch.
