After having tossed and turned for most of the night, finally got myself up at 6.30am and headed down to reception to organise for a taxi and guide to take me into Negombo (a local fishing village 17km from the hotel) at 7.40. Whilst I waited I walked down to the seafront to watch the fishermen venture out in their canoes for the day. After a quick breakfast I was met by my guide Sidney who took me into Negombo where he sent the next couple of hours giving me a guided tour of the town, including the harbour, old Dutch fort and local Sunday fruit and veg market. Unfortunately the fish market closes on a Sunday, so I wasn't able to experience it.
Sidney my guide then dropped me off in the centre of the village so I could take myself on a wander. 1/2 later after visiting the clock tower and church, jet lag finally got the better of me, and Sidney dove me back to the hotel. I then proceeded to spend the afternoon sleeping in my room, swimming in the pool and walking by the seashore before meeting my tour leader and group at 6.30 for a briefing and dinner before retiring to bed at 10.00.
