Alarm call at 5.30 to meet in the lobby at 5.45 for those who wanted to come whale watching. Pat, Martin, Roger and I were the only ones who wanted to participate. We arrived at the port of Marissa at 6.15 where we met the ships captain and jumped aboard his vessel. The boat didn't depart till 7.00, but it meant we got the best seats, and by the time we departed, another 8 people had joined us. From the port, it took us around 45 minutes to reach the viewing area...

We arrived back at the hotel around 11.15, then Roger and I took a tuk tuk into Galle around 9km away. We were dropped opposite the cricket ground, and after a couple of texts, met up with Sarah, John and Ellen by the fort entrance. By fluke they had managed to get us good tickets under a canope for 3000 Rupees, rather than the 5000 we were meant to pay. As the match was about to break for lunch, we decided to do the same, and had a delicious meal at Galle Fort ...

Wake up call at 7.00 for breakfast at 7.30 (though I had been dozing for a while due to a mosquito which had managed to get into my room at around 3.30, and which spent the next 4 hours tormenting me). After breakfast, (which consisted of fruit, omlette and toast, we boarded the bus to travel the short distance to the foot of Little Adam's Peak. After having descended Little Adam's Peak, we arrived back at the bus at around 9.25. We continued on our way back through Ella and on down the mountain pass to Rawana waterfall 15 minutes down the road. According to legend, it is said that Ravana (the king of Sri Lanka at the time) had kidnapped Princess Sita, and had hidden her in the caves behind this waterfall, now simply known as the Ravana Ella Cave. We travelled for an hour or so before stopping to watch traditional clay pot makers creating pots on the wheels. Having stopped for 1/2 hour we continued on our way till we reached Niwehana a couple or hours drive away,where we stopped for rice and curry ( seer-fish or lake fish as our meat). We also had curd and palm fleet treacle, (this area being famous for its water buffalo curd). At around 12.45 we continued on our way.
