Amy's travels
Hello everyone,
We have just started our second attachment to a different medical ward. Everyone is really friendly on my ward and I ended up teaching a group of third year students how to do rheumatology examinations this morning!
We had a really nice weekend - although it was hot and steamy and Helen is being bitten to pieces by bugs (I have a few bites but not as many as helen). On Saturday we set off early to get a bus to the Batu Caves, just north of KL. We then climbed 273 steps up a limestone cliff to see the Hindu shrines inside. The shrines were bright and colourful but overshadowed by the impressive size of the limestone caverns and the monkeys climbing all over everything. It was quite spectacular to look at but I was a bit disappointed by all the tourist gift stalls actually allowed inside the caves. We then got two buses and one train (we think there was a quicker way but we couldn't work it out - for starters there are no designated bus stops here but you have to know where to stand) back to Chinatown to do some shoppping at the markets.
On Sunday we had a quieter day. The girls in my flat bought me breakfast from the local market - a Chinese green bean soup with doughtnut croutons - it was a good start to the day! In the afternoon we went to the Menara telecommunications tower (the 4th highest in the world don't you know?!) and looked inside and walked round the conserved woodland at the bottom.
I have some pictures to put up but I will have to wait until I'm near an internet cafe in KL. I hope you all had good weekends,
Love Amy x
