After packing up the tent we head to the Tennant Creek shops for supplies. It is super windy this morning (and surprisingly cold) which makes packing up a little more difficult. I have been told this is desert weather!
We stop at the Tennant Creek Telegraph Station and do a quick walk around (or rather the wind blows us around!) I love the story of the telegraph line and driving the highway really makes you realise how amazing the building and maintaining of it was.
As we drive there is little to see. Places marked on the map are mostly road stops which generally consist of a service station, dusty caravan park and food stop.
Today we see much of the usual - road trains, campers, caravans etc... Often on the long straits there are no vehicles in sight. We pass a couple of water holes with cattle drinking but see no other wildlife except Eagles. We have seen quite a few areas of burnt trees and today we see a fire in the grass. We are not sure whether these are controlled or not.
As we get closer to Daly Waters the trees are getting taller and greener and there is grass, long and dry. We are seeing some dead kangaroos again. We haven't seen any since before Alice Springs.
We pull into the Daly Waters Pub and the campground is dusty and packed full of caravans, campers etc... We decide on a one night stay and a cabin! Our cabin is small and when I turn the shower on it sprays the entire bathroom. Turns out you only need to be in the bathroom to have a shower! I think Woomera may have a rival on this trip for cabin with the most character!
We see our first mosquitoes and play a game of 'Who can spot the mosquito and kill it'. Fortunately no one gets bitten.
They have a pool (not heated) but we are hot and seem to think it will be ok. We all brave the water although the 2 kids being the most sensible in the family refuse to get in!
The pub is quirky and has years of memorabilia on the walls - money, number plates, jandals, t-shirts... You name it and you'll probably find it here! There is a guy singing in the pub and he's good. We eat dinner at the pub, they barbecue beef and barramundi every night. They churn out the meals like a military operation. The food is delicious.
Tomorrow we are heading to Mataranka to visit the Bitter Sweet hot springs. We met a kiwi couple at our lunch stop today who had just come from there are it sounds lovely so we have decided this will be our next stop!

Stephanie Funny thing we had the same meal when we were there and it was delicious also. I wonder if the entertainment was the same person as it was also good.
