After booking in2 our Park we headed into The Waterfront area for an explore. We had a great walk around the foreshore checked out the very crowded with backpackers large swimming pool, listened to some live music, walked around the Marina n the outside of the Casino. Later in the a/noon Ch found a pub 4 a few beers n to check out a couple of Races, I went 4 a walk then came back n joined him. We met a lovely couple there visiting from NZ n had a great chat! He had a lucky afternoon as he backed a few winners including $2 each way on Daydream Charlie which got up n paid $42 the win! We then found a lovely little Thai place n had an early dinner then headed back to relax in our cabin stay here in Cairns. Yesterday we went n explored the Crystal Cascades Waterfall not far up the road from here, very pretty, then a quiet few hrs relaxing here at the park. Anne n Bill arrived later in the afternoon, was nice to see them. Last nite we had a catch up on each other's travels so far n a chat about where to from here. We had a nice shared dinner up at the Camp kitchen where there was even some live music performed by a fellow just travelling around, very cute. We also met a lovely couple of people from Tassie who had lots of stories to share!
This morning we were up bright n early n headed out to Freshwater Train Station to catch the Scenic heritage train to Kuranda. Unbelievable that this was built up the mountain through the Rainforest commenced in 1887 n over the next 28 yrs the future stages were completed. Kuranda was a quaint touristy town up on the tableland, reminded us of Maleny, nice shops, cafes, galleries n 2 pubs. Tough day 4 us esp 4 Anne n I knowing that all at home headed back to school today for Term 3! We njoyed a Pub lunch n refreshments before heading back down the mountain via the Glass bottomed Sky Rail, awesome views above the Rainforest Canopy n included 180 + deg views of Cairns n its coastline! A nice day overall!
