Day 9:
Well what a night that was. Wild winds and torrential rain and the most long lasting loud thunder I think I have ever heard. Radio reports this morning said there were reports of earth tremors in the Eyre Peninsula but they put it down to thunder. I thought it was due to the flat arid area it just rumbled and bumbled for such a long time at full blast. The lightening was a blast thru our brain cells and eye balls so we were awake a lot. Morning came eventually and no way were we showering at this place so just a bird bath each and we were on our way by 7:45. The road onwards was long and flat and uninteresting with just a few stops at Head of Bight where it was raining so could not go see if there were whales in the Bight - so lunch in the van and then continued on to Bunda Cliffs. No barriers here to keep you safe from a huge drop and a bit wary of the strong winds so kept well clear. Finally, and thankfully we got to Border village where we checked for quarantine again and we got petrol as the trip thingo said we had less that 50kms of fuel left and 30kms to go…erchhh, scares the heck out of me. The wind was such a problem so difficult for driving and we had rain for some time also which is fairly awful when a road train is travelling in the opposite direction, quite scary when the car is engulfed in water and you cannot see where the road is, luckily straight ahead so just have to hold on till clear again. Now finally in Eucla, showered, thank goodness but the wind is still horrendous. We did plan to drive further but we are hoping this will drop tomorrow. Wally has gone down to the beach to capture some shots of our favourite part of this area (our third visit). And now trying to work out time zones as we skipped two hours as we crossed the border although our stomachs don't work to that time for a while. Another month and we will be another hour out. He now wants to use eastern standard time as then it would be wine o'clock. Love again. xxx
