Day 32:
Rain, we just kept having rain all night. It would stop for 15 minutes and you just started to think it was all over and down it came again with wind blowing. The morning showed the claggy clay that was the driveways of our sites. My thoughts with the young couple in a tiny tent parked beside us as the creek which was dry yesterday was full on flowing this morning. They were laughing with each other in the Camp Kitchen when I saw them about 8 am so all was good with the world.
We headed off by 9 to drive the 120 kms to Mingenew a small town in the wheatbelt area. Followed the coast down to Geraldton with a stop at Greenough Pioneer centre for a coffee and lemon tart, didn't stop to view the buildings as the weather is very off. Onto Dongara and one of our chats, E: yes we have been there before, W: no we haven't, E: yes it has a flour mill that needs renovation love and a bakery that I think is the one Ross likes, W: no I have googled it and it's a big town not the one you are thinking of. Gee, guess what I was right again, not sure if it's the Ross bakery, although we will see him next Monday so will check. And the Mill has been completely renovated and looks so gorgeous, straight out of Grand Designs, well maybe not with the little corrugated iron shed attached to the side of it. So after a drive around with him going, yes we have been here before, duh, we had an early lunch of pies, just to check them out of course.
Travelled onto Mingenew and with rain fast approaching we got set up. One of the parks where you pick a site and the manager comes around about 5pm with hand out for the money. We were going to stay 2 nights but we are going on as this is not very exciting. We are holed up in the van with torrential rain every ½ hour or so. It is a public holiday and nothing is moving in the town or anywhere, not even a pub in town, what kind of Australian place is this. On the news there were warning of fires and at home with evacuations but luckily across the river from our place. They are having hot westerly winds for months with no rain, please, please take some of this from us.
So for today from you web footed friends. xxxx

Gail Hi. You didn't comment on the pies but the last time we tried them they had gone off. Ross didn't even rate that one. Its a pity you didn't get to see the buildings in Greenough because my great, great, grandfather and mother got married in the old school house. She was 14 and very pregnant we found out when we did the family tree. Also he was a builder and built the church in Dongara and my grandmother was bought up in Mingenew. Go and have a look at the house on the corner 26 William St and that is the house. e built that and he was the first Roads Board president in Mingenew. His picture is in the museum. Linthorne is the family name. It has been beautifully renovated by the current owners. There should be a pub in the main street opposite the railway line because he built that as well and they ran it for a while. See you on Monday. The forecast is for better weather! xx
