Day 16:
Rained and rained all night long and we did the 'put down the awning at 3 am trick'. It was flapping and making noises and just so annoying and you cannot do that job quietly. Never know whether to do it really fast and get the noise over with or slowly and a pretend its not really you waking everyone up. Morning dawned with blue sky, yayyyy. Well it didn't stay like that but today has been the first day in a t-shirt for the entire day and is now quite hot in Sandstone. We had a long drive and left at 9 and arrived here at 3, the drive being 200 north and then we turned west for another 150. Stopped at Lenore for coffee, only place not boarded up and then into Leinster for lunch. Seven years ago had a great lunch at Leinster, a bustling mining town full of people and kids and traffic, today devoid of human life nearly. Grumpy lady in a shop where we bought milk but we were in a park and made our own wraps and we were on the road again within 15 minutes.
Flowers are abundant, some really pretty mauves and purples, occasional reds. One cannot pull up and take photos easily with a van on the back, the sides of the roads have bad edges and cantilevers so photos not so prevalent. Dad would not have coped at all. With the rain, the outback has been having we should be getting some good displays soon.
We stopped at a spot called London Bridge just outside of Sandstone to replicate a photo we had taken 7 years ago of our then car, Boris and van, Ada with the wonderful rock formation. We were the only people in there and could get The Fonz and Gina into the right spot but the sun would not cooperate and being late afternoon just is not going to show up as much as we liked. Oh well, we tried, long way to come for a failure.
Wally has now been chatting to someone else for the last hour, must be sick of my voice by now. Caravan park packed with golfing people. The course is sand gravel and sandy gravelly bunkers and sandy gravelly greens. Only gravel of varying grades and rather black. Cannot see the delight in that. Oh well each to their own. Love xxxx
