After breakfast we walked around the corner to the supermarket to get some supplies before commencing the walking tour of Luxembourg City as outlined in the Tourist Information Centre map, after walking 15 minutes into the city centre.
We started at Place d'Armes visiting the City Palace and the Dick-Lentz Monument before walking down to the Grand Ducal Palace with its armed guards then on to Place Guillaume II for pictures of the Equestrian Statue of Guillaume II and the Town Hall.
We crossed to Place de la Constitution to see the Gëlle Fra Memorial commemorating the efforts of the resistance during the occupation by the Nazis in World War II. The place also had great views over the Petrusse Valley.
Our walking tour then took us past Cathedral to the Blessed Virgin arriving in the Place Clairefontaine to see the Grand Duchess Charlotte Memorial. We walked along Chemin de la Corniche and took in the magnificent views over the Petrusse Valley and the Grund District.
We arrived at the Bock Promentory and toured the Bock Casemates. Interesting to walk through the tunnels and take in some views from the loopholes in the side of the promontory. Visited St.Michael's Church which was built in 927. We stopped for lunch in the Place d'Armes before continuing our walking tour from St.Michael's Church.
We walked down to the Grund District for some pictures looking up at the ramparts and the Viaduct bridge. Walked along the Petrusse Valley, past the Quirin Chapel dug into the side of the cliff overlooking the valley, and under the Adolphe Bridge before climbing up a zig-zag pathway to the Upper Town again.
Rested in Place de la Constitution for a while before walking back to the hotel. Checked and read emails then set out for dinner, eating at a Chinese Restaurant across the road from the hotel.
Returned to hotel for a rest before packing for our trip to Brussels the next day.
