Got up early and after breakfast requested a room change to a non-smoking room as the smoke stench that leached out of the matress and pillows during the night confirmed our room was a smoking room. We were told the non-smoking room would be available after 12pm.
We went on a walking tour of Zagreb as per the city map we picked up from Tourist Information yesterday. Starting at Jelacic Square we walked along Jurisiceva to the former Stock Exchange which is now the National Bank of Croatia before turning left up Draskoviceva which separates the old town from the newer town.
We then walked down Vlaska to the Catherdral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and parts of the old rampart from the old city of Kaptol. From there we walked down to the Dolac Market, a large vegetable market.
We continued on across to Radiceva and walked up towards Gradec via the Stone Gate and on to St.Marks Church with its coloured tile roof. The walk continued down Cirilometodska past the Croatian Parliament Building, Bans Court Palace and St.Catherines Church> to Lotrscak Tower with views over Zagreb's lower town.
We then caught the funicular back down to the lower town and bought some lunch from a bakery to eat in our new non-smoking hotel room. After lunch we started our walking tour of the lower town, beginning at Jelacic Square we walked down Bogoviceva to Preradovic Square before heading down Masarykova to the Croatian National Theatre and on to Franklin Roosevelt Square and the Mimara Museum.
We then walked along past the Botanical Gardens to Tomislav Square opposite the main train station. We bought some supplies from the supermarket in the train station before having a rest in Tomislav Square and then walking back to the hotel.
We had dinner the hotel restaurant, Piccolo Mondo before packing for our train trip for Ljubljana in the
morning.
