We were told that we had to move rooms today because the room we were in was booked and the entire block that we were in was booked. I find it hard to believe because we never see anyone about in the day! They must hibernate.
We checked out the room we were going to be having, it was the same price as the last one and it was no where near as nice! We weren't happy with it so we said hat we would check out and they booked a better room at the other Sandat hotel down the road for us.
Although I didn't hear Scott shout to me that we should check the rooms out in the hotel next door, plus I completely forgot that there was a hotel next door because it's kind of hidden in amongst a restaurant and a few shops.
We went to reception anyways and asked how much a room would be, it was a little more expensive than what we were paying. £20 per night with breakfast but we didn't mind because it's our last two nights in South East Asia so it would be nice to have a really nice hotel!
We checked in, we had the cheapest room. The only reason it was cheaper was because it was on the top floor (3rd floor) and didn't have a patio door and terrace that went straight into the pool. To be honest we think we had the best room because the sun was on the balcony all day and we had a nice view of the pool! Once we checked in we went down to the pool for an hour, this one was a lot cleaner than Sandat's pool. You could open your eyes under water without them stinging and your eye sight going blurry!
We got down to the conservation site on the beach at around 3.30pm, by now there were already about 100 people gathered around listening to Mr.Turtle on his megaphone with his bandana around his head and traditional wrap around skirt on. There were a few employees of the companies that sponsor the project there, they were releasing a baby turtle each and then the priority were kids to release a turtle and however many were left everyone else got to have one, on a first come first serve basis. We weren't the lucky ones to get a turtle but we got close when there were being released. Everyone had to stand behind the rope which sectioned off part of the beach and whoever had a turtle in a little container had to crouch down at the front.
One the count of 3 they had to tip the container up and let the turtles find their way into the sea. I couldn't believe how fast they were! Their little flippers going around pushing them into the sea, they came up every 20-30 seconds for air and then they would swim. They swim for 40-60 hours before they stop and rest for the night or find a house! Ha.
Scott walked into the water to get a photo of them, he said he couldn't believe how fast they were swimming. You would think that the waves would pull them back but they're really speedy!
I think about 70-80 turtles were released, it's sad to think that none of them may make it!
