Trekking Day 1 - After breakfast we were picked up by sammy and his driver Boon (no not the leather clad michael elfick!) and we were off to our first stop which was a market just outside chiang mai. Here we got a much needed supply of water and bought some toys for the children in the tribal villages that we would be meeting. Next stop was a lovely waterfall - but getting there wasn't so lovely! Here we had a paddle and a splash before heading back down the hill (steep one at that!) to have lunch in the wooden shack across the road! Back on the truck and more further up into the hills we were dropped off and our trek began - straight into the steepest climb ever and at a temperature of 42 we struggled our way to the top and down into the valley. After a hard 1.5 hour walk we arrived at the first village (a karen tribe settlement) had a quick look around at the many huts, lots of pigs and chickens running around! and then we were taken to our hut! Jody and kirsty had a well deserved nap and awoke to find martyn and barry playing football with the boys of the village! Then after a freshen up in the stream it was time for dinner (and lots of dinner there was too!) after dinner we all played a game of cards by candle light (no electricity in the village!) until a monsoon like rain storm interrupted play and we all rushed inside the hut - we did try to continue the game, but the rain was so loud on the roof we could hardly hear ourselves! So we all headed to bed for an early night in preperation for the busy day ahead!
