Tuesday 16th October 2018 - We headed for the Yanchep National Park being slightly buffeted by the cross winds marvelling at the wildflowers still in bloom nestled amongst the landscape still littered with white sand dunes.
The landscape as always started to change with small Xanthorrheoa's (a spiky grass desert grass that when in bloom has a tall single white flower) covering the arid ground as far as you could see.
A short stop at a small coastal town called Lancelin where we didn't see much other than a wild Emu.
There was another change to the landscape as we pulled in to the Yanchep National Park reminding us of the Dandanongs in Victoria. On the way to our camp site we disturbed two large Grey Kangaroo's taking shade in the bush.
We set up camp and then on foot went off to explore this lovely park. We walked around the Koala colony that has lived in the park since 1938 before continuing on to the lake known as Loch McNess.
We wandered around the lake trail listening to the frogs singing and the birds flying between the trees before coming across the Yanchep Inn. Needless to say we stopped for a drink and as we sat outside we were joined by a Kookaburra who watched us, watching him.
Back to camp were we were joined by a couple of ducks who decided to take shelter under our caravan. We were again plagued by flies making it unpleasant to sit outside for long but didn't stop us from watching the numerous kangaroos feeding on the grounds as dusk.
Wednesday 17th October 2018 - The weather is good again today so after a slow start we walk to the information centre and buy a handmade chocolate each from the Chocolate Drop Tea rooms before driving into Yanchep and the beach.
We find a nice sheltered spot within a small cove along the white sandy beach and sit watching the wave's crash over the top of the reef. After a while we can't resist changing into our bathers and taking a dip in the shallow clear blue waters.
Later we walk a bit further along the beach to where the reef ended and swam in the big surf breakers having fun before returning to our spot within the cove. We're not very good a sitting and before long we're up again walking along the water's edge where we saw a spotted red jellyfish.
A short stop in Yanchep to collect a few things and then we had a quiet evening with the kangaroos dinning of the lush green grass around the camp site.
