Wednesday 8th August 2018 - Left Kununurra and after driving along the Gibb River Road that was an unsealed road with several river crossings, we arrived at El Questro where we will be spending the next three nights.
On arrival we set up camp and had a spot of lunch before setting off for the Pigeon Hole Lookout. To get to the lookout we had to drive up a steep and rough track to an escarpment that gave spectacular views over the surrounding ranges and the Pentacost River.
Oh! it should be noted that all of the points of interest at El Questro can only be accessed if you have a 4WD vehicle.
Thursday 9th August 2018 - We got up with the sun today (05:30am) so that we could drive to Amalia Gorge and do the trail in the morning. This is because the trail to the Gorge doesn't have much shade and it becomes too hot during the afternoon.
The first part of the trail was along the valley floor over river rock and around a very narrow ridge that eventually led to a permanent pool. This indicated that we had made it the half way point. From here on the trail became very challenging as we had to climb over the falls and large sandstone slabs to get to the end of the trail and another large pool nestled within the steep sided valley.
At one point we thought that the trail would beat us, but guess what? You've got it! We always seemed to find a way around or over the obstacles presented to us.
After completing the trail we drove to Jackaroo's Waterhole, where we had a spot of lunch before going back to camp and a relaxing afternoon.
Later we took a drive down to the Jetty at the head of Chamberlain Gorge to watch the sunset.
Friday 10th August 2018 - Another early start so that we could go for a swim at Zebedee Springs that was a series of rocky thermal pools amongst dense palms.
After our swim we continued along the Gibb River Road, drove across the Pentecost River Crossing before arriving at the Home Valley Station.
We stopped at the Dusty Bar for a coffee before making our way to the Mount Baldy lookout trail that Phil thought this was aptly named Ha! Ha!
The route was dry & hot as there wasn't any shade as we made our way to the lookout that gave views across the valley to the Cockburn Ranges.
We also walked along the Cockburn Lookout trail that took us to a meteor site before making our way back to camp. Before going across the Pentecost River Crossing we stopped to take photo of the crossing with the Cockburn Range in the background.
Tonight we enjoyed a beer at the Swinging Arm Bar listing an acoustic guitarist before dinner.
Saturday 11th August 2018 - We went to Zebedee Springs again this morning for another swim before heading for Emma Gorge that is on our way back to Kununurra from El Questro.
We stopped at Emma Gorge that is part of the Cockburn Ranges and has a trail that leads through the Cockburn and Quartz sandstone cliff faces to another beautiful pool that is fed by a small waterfall and droplets seeping through the sandstone. This was one of the prettiest we have visited so far.

Kazkelly No shopping .. ? Kill me now !!!
Kaye Nutman Photo of the prettiest waterfall? Did you pick up any rocks from the meteor site. They'd be good for jewellery making. Love the sound of the Swinging Arm Bar!
