Denham - Eagle Bluff - Whalebone Bay
43kms
Today we had a sleep in and a slow morning. We left the caravan park at 10am and went to the Ocean Park Aquarium. A marine biologist walks you around all the aquariums and explains all the different fish and their habitats and what they eat. It was really informative and we learnt a fair bit (as to whether we retain the information is another story!). The highlight is the end where they take you to an outdoor viewing platform to see them feed the 10 sharks. The first feed was very slow and the sharks weren't interested but Roger took the kids to the car and I stayed for the second feeding and saw lot's more sharks and more action. Sharks aren't very active so they only consume 200g of food where dolphins are active and consume 12kg of food per day. I think Bronte's highlight was the toilet - she constantly wanted to keep going. Josh had a lot of highlights including the sea snake, turtle, nemo, lion fish and the squid. We were very lucky that both kids got out without being bitten as the aquariums are very low without covers over the top and not only do the sea life bite but some of them were venomous too!
We drove to Eagle Bluff lookout again and admired the view and tried to find some interesting marine life but only saw schools of fish and birds on the island. During the warmer months you would be able to see some amazing marine life from the lookout.
Our last stop for the day was back to Whalebone Bay which is our campsite again. We are camped right by the waters edge and had a very lazy afternoon. We arrived around 1:30pm so Roger cooked us bacon & eggs for lunch and the kids got in their costumes to go swimming but both got out very quickly as the water was too cold. The rest of the afternoon was spent going for walks, playing in the sand, throwing rocks in the water, Josh rode his bike around and Roger fished. We had spaghetti and meat balls for dinner and enjoyed eating it outside watching the sunset over the water.
Today was warm and sunny and the first day that Roger & I have both been in shorts & t-shirt. I think we should have been on the cruise today instead of yesterday!
We are heading north tomorrow and hoping to stay at Point Quobba (north of Carnarvon).
